Bio

Stratty Ryan is a performing musician and teacher based in Hertfordshire, having studied Flute alongside Saxophone at Guildhall School of Music, graduating with a First Class degree with Honors, also being awarded the Concert Recital Diploma. Throughout his time at the Guildhall, he has performed as principal flute with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, performed newly commissioned operatic works, as well as solo performances such as the Needlemakers woodwind final and placing Third in the British Flute Society Young Artists competition. Stratty enjoys the challenge of playing multiple instruments (also playing Piccolo, Alto Flute and Clarinet), playing chamber music for shows and events on all of these woodwind instrument. This experience works towards his goal of being a multi-instrumentalist performing in west-end shows.

Stratty started learning music on the piano at the age of seven, and whilst not performing in recent years, he is currently teaching a multitude of piano students, still keeping a keen understanding of keyboard technique. He has taken part in a range of performances throughout his school years, across Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet ensembles, orchestras and Jazz bands, as well as singing in choirs, barbershops and performing on Guitar and vocals in a rock band. He also played the lead role in the full school musical, giving Stratty the skills and experience to feel comfortable portraying characters on stage, an aspect that he brings through into his instrumental performances.

These skills have been developed further during his time at Guildhall School of Music, crafting his technical expertise alongside a natural flare for performance. He has been taught Flute by Philippa Davies, Ian Clarke, Piccolo alongside Christopher Green, and Saxophone alongside Paul Stevens. Stratty prides himself on being positive, open and transparent with friends, colleagues and students alike. Whilst his passion is in performing, he still enjoys spending time teaching, currently teaching Flute, Saxophone and Piano at Hertfordshire Music Service, as well as teaching in St Albans and London privately.
