Performing
Stratty is multi-instrumentalist, playing Flute (incl. Alto, Piccolo), Saxophone and Clarinet. He graduated with a First Class degree with honors, principally studying Flute at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma following his final Recital performance. Stratty studied Flute under Philippa Davies and Ian Clarke, and Piccolo with Christopher Green. He has performed in the Barbican hall as Principal Flute with Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, playing repertoire such as Bartok’s Miraculous Mandarin and Unsuk Chin’s Frontispiece. He has also played in the pit, performing multiple recently commissioned Operas such as Stephen McGee’s A Star Next to the Moon and Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking. He has also played Flute in multiple recitals, work events and weddings as part of a Woodwind and Piano trio. Stratty’s solo performances were numerous at the Guildhall, notably playing in the final of the Needlemaker’s Woodwind Prize. In 2024, he also received 3rd place in the Young Artists category in the British Flute Society Annual Competition, picking up the MAS Prize at the same event.
Stratty studied Saxophone under Paul Stevens as a secondary instrument at the Guildhall. He also formed a Saxophone Quartet alongside students on the Saxophone course. He has also performed and improvised over Jazz standards for events. During his time at conservatoire, whilst he could only take one other instrument as part of the course, he also learnt the Clarinet, having the occasional lesson also with Paul Stevens. Stratty is currently focusing on developing his skill set across the Flute, Saxophone and Clarinet, recently performing the Principal Reed part in the St Albans School musical of Guys and Dolls.
